The chief executive of Wales’ biggest quango apologised yesterday for a litany of failures in the awarding of timber contracts . But Clare Pillman of Natural Resources Wales (NRW) said the irregularities, which included the awarding of 13 contracts considered to be unlawful, were down to incompetence rather than fraud. She apologised for the damage to her own body’s reputation and pledged to make sure no similar problems would arise in future. For the third year in succession, auditors qualified the accounts of NRW, meaning they were unable to agree that they showed a “true and fair” view of the company’s finances.
