Drax, the power company, has appointed a former head of one of Britain’s biggest conservation charities to its board as it steps up moves to abandon coal-fired electricity generation. David Nussbaum, former chief executive of the World Wide Fund for Nature in the UK, will become a non-executive director at Drax, which operated a North Yorkshire plant that was one of Europe’s largest coal-fired power stations. The appointment was announced as shares in Drax slid after the group reported it had swung to a pre-tax loss of £83m in the first half of the year, down from a £184m profit posted for the same period in 2016.
