Trade unions and business groups have united to launch an unprecedented attack on the Scottish government’s controversial workplace parking levy. Trade union GMB slammed the levy, which could lead to motorists having to pay up to £400 a year to park their car at work, as “an attack on working-class people by an elitist, out-of-touch, middle- class parliament”. The workplace parking levy, an amendment tacked on to the transport bill following a budget deal between the SNP and the Greens, was passed by Holyrood’s rural and connectivity committee last week. It will allow local councils to impose a charge on car park spaces at business premises but is expected to be paid by employees in a bid to reduce car usage.
