The transformation of a former Fife surface mine has taken a step forward with the approval of a solar energy scheme. Brockwell Energy has secured planning permission for the installation of solar panels and batteries for energy storage at the Westfield site between Kinglassie and Ballingry. Coal mining ceased at the site in 1998 and it was acquired by Hargreaves Services (Westfield) Limited in 2013. Four wind turbines have been installed at Westfield but otherwise the site has remained largely unrestored.

Peterborough City Council has granted planning permission for a new solar park which will be built on a former landfill site. The new energy park will consist of over 5,800 solar panels and a battery energy storage system that will connect to the local electricity grid, enabling the council to sell the green electricity back into the market. It is hoped that the new solar park will have a capacity of 2.93MW, this is enough electricity to provide power to over 700 homes.
