Doncaster Sheffield Airport has revealed plans for a £2m solar farm that will generate about 25 per cent of its energy when operational. Aviation minister Baroness Vere visited the airport as its investors the Peel Group today (1 July 2019) announced plans to build the solar farm. The facility is due to be operational in 2020 and will provide 1.7 MWp of zero carbon energy, saving 220 tonnes of carbon every year – the equivalent of boiling 2.2m kettles every year. It will generate 25 per cent of the airport’s energy.
