The growing international appetite for offshore wind is a huge opportunity to capitalise on the UK’s global lead in offshore wind. To grasp the scale of what’s at stake, it’s worth taking a look at some of the figures we unveiled at Global Offshore Wind. In the last 12 month alone, the total portfolio of offshore wind projects worldwide (those already operating, as well as those being built or being planned) has grown by over 10 per cent, to exceed a staggering 104GW. The UK retains its pole position, followed by Germany, and then some way behind by Taiwan (which grew the fastest in the last 12 months), China and the USA. Think of the global opportunities this opens up for UK manufacturers, suppliers and service providers. This week, we published a report, Export Nation, showing that UK-based companies involved in the offshore wind sector are already exporting goods and services to at least 22 countries across five continents. Winning this kind of work worldwide will become increasingly important in a growing global renewable energy market worth over $300bn a year.
