2017 has been a big year for the UK’s renewables. According to new government figures, in the first three months of 2017 wind, solar, hydro and other renewables together provided 26.6% of the UK’s electricity. That’s the highest ever renewable energy output for a three month period! From January to March, renewables pumped out a huge 24.8 terawatt hours – a 5% increase on the same period last year. Onshore wind continues to blow us away, beating its January- March 2016 record by 20%, and solar was up 16%. And to top it all off, coal is well on its way out, dropping 4.5% from last year’s figures. Clearly, the transition to a cleaner, brighter world is unstoppable!
