A UK investment manager is poised to unveil Europe’s biggest clean energy fund after raising €850m (£753m) to pour into renewable energy projects. London-based Glennmont Partners is expected to confirm this week that it has exceeded its bid to raise €600m for new clean energy projects across Europe and the UK. The fund manager is understood to have been inundated with interest from major institutional investors from Japan, the USA and Europe. Sources close to the fund said it has also caught the interest of smaller UK investors, including local councils and pension funds. The greater than expected interest in Glennmont’s third clean energy fund has emerged amid a growing European appetite for renewable energy and falling costs in the sector. A report from the International Renewable Energy Agency last week found that new renewable energy projects can now compete with traditional sources of power on cost.
