A major leasing round expected to generate more than £8 billion of investment in Scottish offshore wind projects opened to applicants today. ScotWind organiser Crown Estate Scotland (CES) said prospective developers had until March 31 to apply for seabed rights, which would pave the way for them to build the country’s “next generation” of wind farms. CES announced in June that the licensing round – the first of its kind in a decade – would be launched and invited investors and developers to register their interest.

AN INFORMAL consultation on expanding the Rampion wind farm has been launched. The plan would see the existing wind farm double in size, adding 116 new turbines off the coast of Sussex. The site would be connected to the national grid through an underground cable stretching from Climping to Bolney. The four-week Rampion 2 consultation aims to raise “awareness and seek feedback” on the proposals to expand the wind farm.
