A environmental coalition has withdrawn from the government’s agri-food committee saying its strategy is “entirely inadequate” for addressing the climate crisis. The Environmental Pillar, which represents a number of groups, said the as yet unpublished draft strategy document fails to address Ireland’s over-reliance on livestock farming and the impact this is having on climate targets. Dr Elaine McGoff, an ecologist and representative of the coalition, said: “The statistics show that all of our environmental indicators are going the wrong way. “The intensification of agriculture, particularly dairy, has been highlighted by the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Parks and Wildlife Service as being the primary cause.”
