It is time for Ireland to stop “tinkering around the edges” on climate change and introduce more radical policies, the Labour party has said. Opposition TDs yesterday criticised the government’s record on climate change after a report from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) showed that Ireland’s current climate plans and proposals are too slow and not being implemented effectively. The “state of the environment report”, published by the EPA, analysed Ireland’s Climate Action Plan 2019 to evaluate how well the country is responding to climate change and implementing EU environmental directives. The report said Ireland will not meet its greenhouse gas emissions or renewable energy targets in 2030 or 2050, and said it is behind several EU countries.
