The first shipload of 6,000 tonnes of sand has been delivered by ship from Bristol Port using a new 500 metre-long jetty at Hinkley Point C near Burnham-On-Sea. EDF says each ship delivery keeps around 300 lorry loads off the roads and the jetty is expected to handle the equivalent of around 100,000 lorry loads over its life. The majority of aggregates are quarried in Somerset and are being used to make concrete for the new nuclear power station.

HINKLEY C money has helped two local organisations make a significant difference to their communities during the school holidays. ‘Holiday hunger’ has been the term used for low-income families who struggle to afford extra meals in the school holidays, especially when combined with an increase in childcare costs. The Quantock Foodbank, based in Watchet, received £2,563.34 from the HPC Community Fund as a start-up grant in October 2018.
