Britain’s nuclear regulator said on Tuesday that EDF Energy had made improvements that were required to a reactor at its Heysham 1 plant. The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) served an improvement notice in May to EDF Energy, which is owned by French utility EDF, related to shortcomings in the examination and inspection of the pressure vessel at reactor 1. “ONR is now satisfied that EDF Energy has made the required improvements and completed the 11 overdue examinations of the pressure vessel at the Lancashire facility,” the regulator said. The reactor has been offline since September for a statutory outage – when a reactor is shut for routine maintenance – and is due to come back online in December.
