UK Power Networks (UKPN) is set to undertake the UK’s first trial of Faraday Grid technology to boost flexibility and efficiency as more renewable power projects come online. The innovative technology, developed by Edinburgh-based Faraday Grid, is designed to be installed into existing electricity grids in order to balance the intermittency and volatility of renewable generation. Comprising a network of independent Faraday Exchangers, the technology enables the autonomous self-balancing of the network, making it better equipped for new energy demands driven by trends such as the rise in electric vehicle (EV) chargers. Faraday Grid estimates that the concept has the potential to double the amount of renewable generation a grid can carry if it is installed at scale.
