Last week the former Archbishop of Canterbury and the heads of the UK’s main business lobby groups called for a socialist revolution. You may have missed it. They almost certainly missed it themselves. The story starts with the publication of a statement from “over 350 civic leaders” calling for a “stronger, fairer and greener recovery”. The signatories included all the great and the good: the heads of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the Federation of Small Businesses, the British Chambers of Commerce, the big unions, the Church of England and other religious groups, Oxfam, Greenpeace, Save the Children, the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a host of centre-left think tanks and foundations.
