The Gorleben exploration mine will be closed for good. The Federal Environment Ministry has placed a corresponding order with the Federal Agency for Final Storage (BGE). A spokesman for the Federal Environment Ministry said on Friday that no possibility for an economic reuse of the mine had been found. The BGE therefore proposed the complete shutdown and the ministry approved this. “The Gorleben repository chapter will be closed from today,” said State Secretary for the Environment Jochen Flasbarth in Gorleben (Lüchow-Dannenberg district). Lower Saxony’s Environment Minister Olaf Lies (SPD) emphasized: “As of today, there will be no more back doors.” The topic of the Gorleben repository is finally over.
