Asked by the Minister responsible for energy within the framework of the National Radioactive Materials and Waste Management Plan ( PNGMDR ), ASN issues its opinion on the studies relating to the management of long-lived low-level waste ( FA- VL ), to contribute to the guidelines of the 5 th edition of this plan. FA-LV waste is a heterogeneous whole with regard to its radiological and physicochemical characteristics. They include graphite waste, radium-bearing waste, some of the waste asphalt Marcoule and some of tailings conversion of uranium (RTCU) of Orano at Malvési. They must be the subject of a specific management, because their lifespan does not allow their storage in the existing industrial sites of the National Agency for the management of radioactive waste ( Andra ) in Aube. While awaiting disposal, the FA-LV waste packages are stored in facilities on the producers’ sites.
