On 7 January 2020, ASN put EDF on notice to transmit certain elements required by its decision of 16 July 2013 relating to the control of nuisances and the impact on health and the environment of basic nuclear installations for the Blayais, Bugey, Chinon, Chooz, Cruas, Gravelines, and Saint-Laurent sites. The decision of July 16, 2013 requires that the operator of a basic nuclear installation attach to the periodic review report of each installation: an analysis of the performance of the means of prevention and reduction of the effects and nuisances generated by the installation with regard to the effectiveness of the best available techniques; an analysis of the chemical and radiological state of the environment relating to the installation and its vicinity.

France this year is targeting roughly the same nuclear power output it aimed for 2019 at around 395 terawatt hours (TWh), an executive at power utility EDF said on Monday. EDF missed its 2019 target, with nuclear output hurt by outages falling 3.5% to 379.5 TWh. Stephane Feutry, in charge of EDF’s nuclear output, told journalists that while EDF’s nuclear target was around the same this year it was likely to be impacted by the planned closure of Fessenheim, France’s oldest operating nuclear plant. The Fessenheim 1 reactor is to halt generation at the end of February and Fessenheim 2 will stop on June 30.
