A survey conducted by France inter journalists for the show “Secrets d’info” revealed that EDF, AREVA and ASN had known since at least 2005 that AREVA’s Creusot Forge factory was not Ability to produce conforming parts. Yet it is the factory where many parts of reactors have been manufactured which contain anomalies, including those of the EPR of Flamanville. December 2005. Either more than ten years ago. This is the date when the Nuclear Safety Authority (NSA) sent a letter to EDF alerting it to the deplorable condition of the Le Creusot plant, which was experiencing major malfunctions. This factory is where a considerable number of parts have been forged for reactors in France and abroad. It is also the factory that was chosen to forge the bottom and the lid of the tank of the Flamanville EPR. The obsession to restore the blazon of the French nuclear industry has taken precedence over the maintenance of safety in France. Indeed, in the industrial plans, the EPR was to be the showcase of a team of France’s nuclear EDF-AREVA for many export projects. If, in 2005-2006, this information had been public, the EPR would have lost all its interest. EDF and AREVA have wished to sacrifice the nuclear safety imperatives to make believe the revival of the sector.
