French utility EDF said on Friday that power generation at its 3,600 megawatt (MW) Bugey nuclear power plant in eastern France could be curbed from Tuesday July 2 due to a lower flow rate of the Rhone river. The plant near the Swiss border has four 900 MW reactors and uses water from the river for cooling. EDF’s use of water from rivers as coolant is regulated by law to protect plant and animal life. It is obliged to reduce output during hot weather when water temperatures rise, or when river levels and the flow rate are low.

Eight activists of Greenpeace, sentenced to jail for having introduced in 2017 on the site of the Cattenom nuclear power station, will be judged on appeal in Metz on October 30th, was learned Tuesday with the NGO .Two months in prison, a first sentence, had been handed down by the Thionville Criminal Court in February 2018 against two activists who had already been sentenced for entering nuclear installations. The other six activists were given a five-month suspended prison sentence, as the director of the NGO’s campaign, Yannick Rousselet, was prosecuted for complicity.
