French nuclear regulator ASN will review its control procedures after forged manufacturing documents were found at nuclear group Areva, ASN chief Pierre-Franck Chevet said on Wednesday. French nuclear reactors Fessenheim 2 and Gravelines 5 have been halted for months after Areva found out that staff at its Creusot Forge foundry for heavy nuclear components had routinely doctored manufacturing-tracking documentation. The two reactors are halted while experts determine whether steel with higher-than-expected carbon levels was used in their construction and poses any safety risks. “We will have the first proposals on how to review our procedures by the end of the first half,” Chevet told journalists. Chevet said the ASN would make sure that checks were tightened at every level, including at nuclear reactor operator EDF, nuclear reactor builder Areva and the suppliers of the nuclear industry.
