Jeremy Corbyn will join protesters on Tuesday to demand Boris Johnson deliver an immediate ban on the controversial process of fracking. The Labour leader warned that fracking, the method of shale gas extraction through hydraulic fracturing underground, will have a damaging effect on the environment. Research published by Labour shows if the UK fully exploited its shale gas reserves, the amount of carbon released would “eliminate any hope of the Government meeting its 2050 net-zero target”. It comes as Mr Corbyn kicks off a summer of campaigning as he puts his party on an election footing amid growing speculation the Prime Minister could call a snap election in the autumn.
