The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) detected a small amount of non-natural radioactive substances in a sample of ambient air particles collected in Kotka from 28 September to 5 October 2020. The findings concerned cobalt (Co-60), iodine (I-131), and cesium (Cs-137). Similar particulate observations have been made in other neighboring countries. The concentration of the detected substances was very low but measurable. The observation has had or has had no effect on the radiation situation.
