Environment ministers from 10 EU member states have urged the European Commission to “set a clear direction” towards reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as pressure mounts on the bloc to ramp up action on climate change and clean energy. Ministers from Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden have all signed a letter calling on the Commission to set out “credible and detailed” pathways towards a net zero carbon EU economy by 2050, ahead of the publication of its draft long-term climate strategy next week.
