The world’s biggest offshore wind company has joined the race to corner Britain’s burgeoning £6bn battery market after plugging in its first major energy storage scheme. Danish energy giant Orsted, the developer behind the biggest offshore wind farm, has charged up a battery capable of generating 20MW of power in Liverpool. The company once known as Dong Energy told The Sunday Telegraph that its first stand-alone battery project has started commercial operations and will be contracted to help balance the national grid from next summer.
