Since we began our Lighten Up campaign, 1,200 10:10 supporters have sent messages to their councillors, asking them to get their councils to pledge to switch to 100% LED street lights. And now, six councils have agreed to sign the pledge! Big congratulations are in order for Islington, Newham, Kirklees, Wirral, City of London and Hammersmith & Fulham. They’re joining in the movement to tackle climate change, starting by changing their street lights to LEDs. And they’re saving tonnes of carbon and thousands of pounds while they do it

Theresa May unveils target to halve energy usage of new buildings by 2030 as she talks up plans to place UK at forefront of global scientific research and technological development. UK Prime Minister Theresa May has today pledged to halve energy usage from new buildings by 2030, in a speech which saw her herald clean growth and the response to climate change as “one of the greatest industrial opportunities of our time”. Speaking at the Jodrell Bank observatory complex in Cheshire, May said science and innovation was at the heart of the government’s Industrial Strategy as she stressed the importance of the UK being at the forefront of developing technologies “with the potential to transform our society” in the years ahead.
