A new report from Octopus Energy has revealed how time of use enegry tariffs could help electric vehicle (EV) owners further reduce their carbon emissions and slash their energy bills. The company yesterday published the initial findings from its ‘Agile Octopus’ V2G smart EV charging tariff pilot, which has been running since February. It confirmed the smart tariffs helped customers save money, reduce energy use, and curb their carbon emissions, while also limiting pressure on the grid. Hailed as the UK’s first half-hourly time of use tariff, the government-backed trial has enabled EV-driving Octopus customers to choose the cheapest times to charge their cars or undertake other energy-intensive household activities. The results so far suggest the tariff has helped consumers on the trial save money, boost efficiency, and cut carbon emissions.
