Labour’s candidate for the crunch Copeland by-election has vowed to fight for the NHS and declared she is “pro-nuclear – no ifs, no buts”. Local councillor and former hospital doctor Gill Troughton, who volunteers as a St John Ambulance driver, won Labour’s nomination on Thursday night. The party wants to focus its fight on the planned downgrade of West Cumbria Hospital.
