Energy bosses have been served a “fresh wake up call” that the sector needs to accelerate its transition away from fossil fuels in order to attract top talent. Generation 2050, a 1,000-strong body of young people coming up through the ranks of the industry, has today launched its manifesto, which calls for efforts by businesses and governments to tackle climate change to be “redoubled”. It also claims that current action on limiting global temperature increase to 2°c and extending universal access to energy is “neither fast nor ambitions enough”. As such, the industry is faced with a “do-or-die conundrum” whereby, if it fails to decarbonise, it faces putting off potential future employees.
