The first Bioenergy Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) plant in Europe is expected to be up and running within a matter of weeks, after developer Drax announced commissioning of the pilot project has begun today at its site in Yorkshire. During the six month pilot the plant is expected to capture a tonne of CO2 each day from the emissions that will result from the burning of biomass at the unit. The project is part of a collaboration with chemical engineers C-Capture, and could be the first in a series of BECCS pilot plants across the UK.
