The government yesterday confirmed plans for the next wave of capacity market auctions, as it seeks to ensure secure power supplies into the 2020s and drive investment in back up generation and flexible grid services. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy announced it was seeking 46.3GW of reserve electricity capacity through the forthcoming 2022/23 T-4 auction and a further 4.6GW in the 2019/20 T-1 auction in order to ensure the lights are kept on across the UK in the event of any surge in demand.
