Exelon Corp. said it is taking steps to shut down two nuclear power plants in Illinois, citing a lack of progress on state energy legislation. The state’s so-called next-generation energy plan includes a zero-emission standard that would help keep nuclear plants operating in the state. Exelon previously had warned that it would close the two plants, targeting the closing of its Quad Cities plant for June of next year and the shuttering of the Clinton plant the following June.
