Japan’s securities watchdog has questioned Toshiba’s former chief executive over his alleged role in a $1.3bn accounting scandal that has now caught the attention of US authorities. Hisao Tanaka, who stepped down as chief executive last July, was recently summoned for questioning as Japan’s Securities Exchange and Surveillance Commission (SESC) considers whether it should file a criminal complaint against former Toshiba executives, according to people familiar with the matter.
