Letter Dorfman et al: We strongly agree with Dr David Lowry’s well-reasoned criticism of the information commissioner who has refused public interest access to information on key EDF and DECC nuclear waste contracts (Report, 31 May). There is no justifiable reason for the information commissioner, EDF or the DECC to keep secret these key facts from the people of the UK and north Somerset in particular. In doing so, the commissioner has put EDF’s narrow commercial interests before the interest of the health and safety of the community. There is a key public interest in all of us knowing exactly the economic case for how or if radioactive waste from the proposed reactors at Hinkley Point C may be dealt with.
