Motorists planning on buying a new car next month should consider electric vehicles as they could save money on running costs, the environment minister has said. Richard Bruton also said that one in seven new cars on Irish roads would be electric within five years. He made the comments after announcing that the government is drafting laws to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030. The plan aims to ensure that one in three cars on the roads are electric by the end of the decade. The pledge was first outlined in the climate action plan published earlier this year, which aims to reduce net emissions to zero by 2050.
