ElectricityInfo.org is an independent website providing consumers with environmental information on the UK electricity supply industry so they can make an informed choice about their electricity supply.
The site started in 2005 as a sister site to Green Electricity Marketplace. The aim was to encourage consumer uptake of greener electricity by listing suppliers’ fuel mix data, which became a legal obligation for all UK domestic electricity suppliers that year.
Back in 2005, there were just a dozen suppliers, and only one was 100% renewables. Renewables made up just 3.8% of the supply mix.
Over the years, the number of suppliers has grown considerably, and around 20 suppliers are 100% renewables, with renewables making up a third of the supply mix.
In 2016 we started publishing additional data on the overall GB fuel mix, including real-time Fuel Mix and Carbon intensity.
Also in 2016, we added the Daily News updates, a handy roundup of of news stories on energy and the environment, provided for us by Edinburgh Energy & Environment Consultancy.
Electricity Info is independent of government and electricity suppliers and relies on individual donations to help cover costs.
Additional funding is currently provided through Green Electricity Marketplace. Switches made through that site for its recommended supplier, Octopus, provide a £25 fee per fuel switch. This income is used to help fund the maintenance and development of Electricity Info.
The chart below shows the site’s surplus or deficit each month. Website maintenance and development time is charged at a 50% discount.

We greatly appreciate the support of individual site visitors who have donated to the upkeep and improvement of the site.
Over the last 12 months, there has been a funding shortfall of around £380. Just seven more visitors each month chipping in £5 would see costs fully covered.
