China’s State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) says it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for “global cooperation” in nuclear energy with Westinghouse Electric Company of the USA. The integrated global cooperation framework MoU was signed on 6 November during the first China International Import Expo in Shanghai. SPIC was established in May 2015 through the merger of China Power Investment Corporation and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation. The company is one of China’s top five power generators, with a total installed capacity of 126 GWe, including 4.48 GWe of nuclear power. It owns the Hongyanhe nuclear power plant in Liaoning Province, and the Haiyang and Rongcheng plants in Shandong Province.
