A perfect storm threatens a fragile energy sector – and there could be more trouble in store. From the first day of 2019, tension has been mounting in the UK’s energy sector. December could be the month when that pressure finally comes to a head, as a convergence of factors strike, putting unbearable strain on the sector. Big energy suppliers, including SSE and British Gas, have been suffering after an influx of competitors offering cheaper deals, while profits are down after the Government imposed an energy price cap on Jan 1.
