Hydrogen not the magical answer to zero-carbon prayers. Hydrogen is the miracle fuel the world never seems to quite get round to using. In spite of periodic bursts of interest, such as in the 1970s. Right now the cost of producing green hydrogen works out at more than $200 a barrel of oil, and even then it’s bulky and hard to transport. Though the cost will likely fall that doesn’t make it a panacea. Taxpayers will respond badly to massive subsidies for another green technology.
