One of the world’s first energy storage investment funds is to list on the London market. Gore Street Capital, a private equity group, said it plans to raise £100m from the initial public offering of its Gore Street Energy Storage Fund later this month. The fund will invest in large-scale batteries. Energy storage is a growing market as the amount of intermittent renewable generation on the grid increases. The government has said it estimates that by 2050 the peak demand on the UK grid will increase six-fold. Battery storage can be used to help balance supply and demand of electricity at times of peak demand. Energy storage will “fulfill a core infrastructure need in the UK,” said Alex O’Cinneide, managing partner at Gore Street Capital.
