Kaluza, the intelligent energy platform owned by Ovo Energy, has today announced a new partnership with battery firm Powervault designed to help its customers to store clean power when wholesale prices are at their lowest and use it when energy costs climb. Kaluza is a software platform that connects smart devices such as electric vheicle (EV) batteries and home storage packs to create a virtual power plant. It assesses in real time the grid’s energy supply and demand balance, factoring in wholesale prices and weather data to call upon its flexible load to smooth peaks and troughs. By twinning the technology with Powervault batteries in peoples’ homes, the two companies hope to encourage people to charge and discharge their batteries at different times of the day, easing pressure on the grid and curbing emissions in the process.
